FAQs

  • Therapy can be short-term or long-term, depending on your needs and wants. Some people prefer highly structured, short-term therapy aimed at symptom reduction. Other people prefer long-term therapy to explore, understand, and change their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. By creating goals, it becomes easier to know when you are ready to end therapy.

  • Not necessarily. Not all people going to therapy “qualify” for or would benefit from receiving a DSM diagnosis. Oftentimes, people come to therapy to improve their relationships, learn skills to manage their stress effectively, and explore their identity. However, there are times when a diagnosis may be necessary and even beneficial. For example, if you are expressing severe depression and would profit from a combination of medication and therapy.

*Disclaimer: I cannot prescribe medication but can help you find a psychiatrist that can work with you.

  • Therapy is a personal choice. Therapy allows you the space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Sometimes, people seek therapy to address their mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety. Other times, they come to grow and learn skills that can increase their life satisfaction. Personally, I believe anyone can benefit from therapy but the answer to your question lies in your hands.
